The Eden Project

Comfortably the most popular tourist attraction in the region, the Eden Project continues to attract well over a million visitors a year and there's good reason for its popularity. It succeeds in combining a stunning environmental showcase and educational resource with a vibrant display of planted landscapes, intriguing sculptures and a diverse range of trees, plants, shrubs and vegetable gardens to communicate Eden's central message about the relationship between people and plants.

Located in an unused china clay pit near St Austell, the complex is dominated by two enormous covered biomes claimed to be the world's largest greenhouse. A sophisticated control system regulates the temperature and atmosphere which enables one biome to replicate the humid environment of the tropics and the other to imitate the warm temperate regions of the Mediterranean. The result is an eclectic mix where you will see everything from a massive rain forest, luscious tropical plants and a crashing waterfall to fantastic flora and fauna, including citrus, olives, herbs and vines and aloes. Exhibits growing sugar cane, bananas, coffee and much more show how we are connected to these far off places.
